PERFUME PAGODA – HIGHLIGHT TRIP 2022
The Perfume Pagoda is a vast complex of Buddhist temples and shrines built into the limestone Huong Tich Mountains. The shrines lie amid a flooded valley of towering cliffs and lotus fields, providing a stunning backdrop for your photos.
PERFUME PAGODA INFORMATION.
Perfume Pagoda Legend claims that the site was discovered over 2000 years ago by a monk who named the site after a Tibetan mountain where Lord Buddha practiced meditation. The beginnings of the temple complex itself are believed to date back to the 15th century, and the statue of Lord Buddha is from the late 18th century.
This is one of Vietnam’s most important pilgimage sites, and your itinerary will follow the traditional path taken by pilgrims over the ages. In fact, the journey is as much a part of the experience as the destination itself. You will board a traditional row boat to cruise along the scenic waterways of the Yen River to arrive at the Perfume Pagoda. From here you can take a gentle hike between the cliff-side temples, or ride the cable car to the mountaintop Huong Tich Cave, home to the most impressive shrines. Once at the cave you can descend the 120 steps into Huong Tich Cave where pilgrims often leave offerings near the various stalactites, each with its own special name and purpose.
Further down the river you will visit Thien Tru (Heaven Kitchen) Pagoda was built in the mid-15th centure. It sits at the transition point between the flat land of the river valley and the steep mountain behind. Continued construction over the centuries has resulted in Thien Tru Pagoda becoming a magnificent castle with its own unique architecture set amongst the mountains and forests of Huong Son.
The day tour through this peaceful and beautiful region will give you an unforgettable appreciation of what has drawn pilgrims here for centuries. You may even want to make the “pilgrimage” back here again one day.
