Another beautiful scene in Mandalay that you should not miss during the Myanmar in your eyes 7 days journey when coming here is Mingun Pahtodawgyi stupa. About 10 km northwest of Mandalay, this is an incomplete monumental stupa in Mingun that hides the mystery in the remaining ruins.
This stupa is actually a red brick temple that, if completed, will become the largest brick Buddhist architecture in the world, with an estimated height of 150 meters. The pagoda was started in 1790, under King Bodawpaya. But due to economic weakness, this great work was halted in 1797 and forever unfinished after the king’s death.
Mingun ruins are only about 50 meters high, about 140 square meters wide. In 1838, a major earthquake caused the upper part of the temple to collapse. But today, Mingun Pahtodawgyi is still standing by the river. And the large cracks make this stupa even more majestic.
