Soi Sim is a small island located on the western side of Halong Bay. It covers an area is 9 hectares, with two hills about 100 metres high. Quite different to the hundreds of limestone islands in the bay, Soi Sim Island is mainly covered by soil. For that reason, the vegetation in the island is quite luxuriant and diverse in its botanical species. In fact, the dense green flora is the most attractive feature of the island and will enchant you when visiting Soi Sim Island. As well as this, you enjoy the generous and refreshing spaciousness, the fresh breeze, unspoiled beaches, and white sandbanks.
Being so generously endowed by nature, Soi Sim Island is a great place for water sports such as kayaking and swimming. The waters here are so clear and emerald that you can see shoals of small fish swimming around. You’ll also find several varieties of beautiful flowers on your walks of discovery around the island. On these walks you’ll probably come across the sweet berries of the endemic plant of the island – Rhodomyrtus tomentosa – called soi sim in Vietnamese. Because this tree can be found in every corner of the island, the locals decided to name the island after the tree.
