Luon Cave is located on Bo Hon Island. On the outside it presents a limestone archway about 60 meters wide and a height between 2.5 to 4 metres depending on the tide. Because of the limited height, the only way to visit Luon Cave is by a small boat or a kayak. Although Halong Bay is well-known for its impressive cave system, there are very few caves like Luon Cave. It is a perfect combination of natural features, with rocky cliffs rising straight up out of the blue-green waters, and adorned with rare native plants such as Benjamin fig trees, ferns, cycads and beautiful orchids displaying their sweet-scented flowers.
Passing through the impressive cave entrance, you come to a tranquil and protected round lake inside, surrounded by luxuriant trees and high stone walls. Keep an eye out for the monkeys that scamper in groups through the trees above the cliffs. The lake itself is home to many species of sealife, including shrimp, fish, crab and cuttle-fish.
Luon Cave is considered as one of the most ideal places in Halong Bay for kayaking. If you have a great passion for kayaking, you should not miss Luon Cave and the chance to take a Halong Bay 2-day kayaking tour.
