AO ECH – A NEGOTIATE DESTINATION IN LANH LAN
Ao Ech is located on the east side of Cat Ba Island, Lan Ha Bay is a very quiet bay area with about 400 large and small islands and 130 small golden sand beaches creating a beautiful natural picture, and located on the route. trans-forest from the national park center to Viet Hai commune (Cat Hai district).
Ao Ech lies in the middle of the mountain, at an altitude of 80 meters above sea level, the pond water can see the bottom. The Ao Ech has an area of 3.2 hectares and changes with the seasons. In the dry season, the Ao Ech very narrows, but never runs out. In the rainy season, the water flowing down from the rocky ravines makes the pond larger, only a vast sky color, forest color and water color can be seen. In winter, the Ao Ech water is relatively warm, while in the summer it is cool.
Located in the middle of Cat Ba National Park, on the road through the forest from the center of the national park to Viet Hai commune (Cat Ba island), Ao Ech is an interesting destination for many tourists. After a long journey of climbing the mountain pass, suddenly seeing in front of us opens a vast water surface, each breeze carries cool steam on the face, the fatigue seems to disappear …
In Cat Ba National Park, there are 2 places called Ao Ech. A Ao Ech in the area of the Basket Together Ranger Station lies idle in the sea. It is called the Ao Ech, but there are no frogs here. Perhaps, due to its appearance somewhat resembling a frog in search of prey, people named this small claw.
As for Ao Ech in the middle of the forest, on the road to Viet Hai commune, there are countless frogs and bullfrog and ransom. During the day, frogs often rang. At night, they cried more and more, racing to show off their loud voices to assert “territorial sovereignty” and seduce mates. In the dry season, frogs also cry, in the rainy season, the louder the noise, sometimes heartening. A few hundred meters away, frogs can be heard. Thousands, tens of thousands of frogs “combine”, along with the sound of crows, the sound of dripping, the sound of birds singing into a symphony without words of the green forest, probably only in Cat Ba National Park.
The pond is not very deep, only about 50-60 cm. The bottom of the pond is a thick layer of mud due to decomposed branches and leaves. From the bottom of the pond rose thousands of trees And Water – a tree found only in Ao Ech but not found anywhere else. Trees 5-10 meters high, the trunk is about the size of adult thighs, the bark is rough, grows in clusters, sometimes standing alone. In winter, the pond water is relatively warm, while in the summer it is cool. So, after a long, tiring journey, splashing water to wash my face, hands and feet, there’s nothing like fun.
In addition to frogs, in Ao Ech, there is also a species of ground mackerel. The fish is slightly larger than a finger, well-built with a white belly, a blue back and about 7-8 cm long. In particular, Ao Ech has a lot of crabs. Crab crawl sprawled on the pond bottom, crabs peeked in the rocks, tree holes. Even a child is “excited” to climb the tree branch to dry in the sun. Unlike crabs that live in the fields, the crabs here are darker in color. Occasionally, people in the area come here to fish. A small tree branch, a piece of rope tied to a piece of pig skin or a rag, is 5-7 kg for one session. Crab brought home to cook soup, cooking hot pot, as delicious as crab soup.
Ao Ech retains its inherent wild beauty. If you are healthy enough, brave and determined to cross the forest road to visit Viet Hai commune, visitors will receive a wonderful gift from nature. That is to see with your own eyes the Ao Ech, enjoy the cool and fresh air, hear frogs squeak, watch the swimming of ground-dwelling fish and follow the horizontal and vertical steps of thousands and thousands of animals.
